Black Board Post

Disscution of the Bocarsly and White articles on high fructose”

The articles by Miriam Bocarsly and JohnS.White represented valid points supporting HFCS having effects on obesity. The article which I like most is Miriam Bocarsly’s article because it is more understood than the John S. White article. White was getting paid for industry and receiving payment from those selling high fructose corn syrup. On the other hand Bocarsly provide experiments with lab rats to prove obesity crisis and connects it with HFCS.Also Bocarsly article give example of lab rats and more detailed on HFCS.It also provides evidence why how HFCS is not the cause of obesity. In personally I think cause of obesity is also depend our diet what we eat how much sugar we take.Overall I like the Bocarsly article because it explained everything about HFCS.

No Gay Gene article

The article “No Gay Gene” is about the study on genese of human sexuality.I disagree with  Reilly’s implication.Becuase scientist do not have a social duty to understand the biology of sexual orentation. The idea of sexual orentation is that something that can be biologically test on individual.Humans genes are very hard to reveal sexual behaviour.Ganna and his colleagues also used the analysis to estimate that up to 25% of sexual behaviour can be explained by genetics, with the rest influenced by environmental and cultural factors. At worst the public will be misinformed and confused about why scientists would study this trait over thousands of serious diseases, all while a historically marginalized group has been left more vulnerable.

Pennycook Response

Jargon is a type of language which has special words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group and are hard for other people to understandThe main and important characteristic that Jargon uses to differentiate itself from other is a unique words called “buzzwords”.By the use of “buzzwords” reader is able to develop the meaning of relating and none relating meanings of sentences. For example in reading study 3, Pencooke chose those mundane statements that contained clear meaning but that would not be considered conventional profound. For example, “Most people enjoy some sort of music”.This is a good example of association between analytical thinking and profundity ratings for pseudo profound bullshit is due to bullshit detection and it has clear meaning. However some people understand this conflict may believe it is conventionally profound. After reading this study as an author, I would make sure my writing makes good sense but it’s clear about “buzzwords” I also found interesting fact that one of the most salient features of our culture is that there is so much bullshit.
