My name is Alina and I am at the “ The City College Of New York” ( CCNY) as a sophomore. As far back as I can remember in my childhood, I have wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. As a young child, I was practically raised in a clinic where my aunt and uncle worked as medical assistants. That clinic was just like my home. I remember that I loved to use the stethoscope to listen my heart beats. When I was a teenager I volunteered in hospitals where I watched doctors as they saved lives. And I wanted to do the same thing when I grew up. I want to be someone who can help in emergencies. I want to have the capability to keep them alive and healthy. It is for these reasons that I want to major in Biology. Biology will teach me how to diagnose patients ,and find new cures and treatments for illness. When I was growing up in Pakistan, I witnessed many medical emergency situations. I have a vivid memory of a man who was in a traffic accident screeching in pain on the floor in a puddle of his own blood. Everyone was shocked, yelling, and calling for emergency service. The doctor came running gave everyone instructions and saved this man’s life right before our eyes by performing CPR and stitching up his wounds. When he was no longer bleeding and his wounds were covered, the doctor released him to the emergency services. when I went to sleep that night, I realized I wanted to be like the doctor .She knew exactly where the wounded man’s arteries were and how to stop his bleeding .She knew where to apply pressure to relieve his pain. Also for my pre-med school, I did 150 hours of volunteers in a hospital which was a great experience for me. In my bachelor’s degree, it helps me to prepare myself for MCAT exams. And I can also have many

opportunities after having major in Biology. I can get a good job in Medical field too. The education required for that profession is master’s degree or doctorate degree. To be good in this profession, it requires a lot of knowledge in this field such as good language and communication skills which are very important. I must prepare myself now. Then, I must take internships to gain experiences for improving my communication skills and raise my confidence level. An internship experience helps me a lot when I will start my profession. In Pakistan, I used to see how people see doctors as saviors because they would heal people and give them medicine.
I was so amazed by that accident and I understand now that my family was right. Helping people is the best way of getting respect. And I was determined, I will study and make myself a perfect doctor and help people as they need. I knew that I wanted to become a doctor like she was.
